Auto deal, much to do for environmentalists.

Hidden by the networks about the big 3, GM, Chrysler and Ford auto manufacturers, and Washington’s deal with them has a lot to do with enforcing environmental desires.

Section 2 of the draft legislation states what Congress perceives to be the “purposes” of the bill.

The first “purpose” listed is “to immediately provide authority and facilities to restore liquidity and stability to the domestic automobile industry in the United States.”

The second “purpose” specifically cited is “to ensure that such authority and such facilities are used in a manner that—(A) results in a viable and competitive automobile industry that minimizes adverse effects on the environment; (B) enhances the ability and the capacity of the domestic automobile industry to pursue the timely and aggressive production of energy-efficient advanced technology vehicles.”  More . . .

Who is going to oversee this bundle of taxpayers cash?   The person or persons will be designated as the "Car Czar."   Now that’s assuring.

So, the bottom line for Americans is that we will be offered cars that are built in a manner that minimizes the adverse effects on the environment and that they are energy efficient using advanced technology methods.

What that actually means in real terms will be hammered out by the EPA, the Fish and Wildlife Service, Greenpeace, Tree huggers-R-Us, and a host of other approved climate change specialists.  This may take decades.

"The auto bailout being fashioned by liberal lawmakers with Bush’s apparent acquiescence contains no meaningful limits on the bloated union contracts that have helped make American automakers uncompetitive by giving autoworkers compensation that exceeds $70 per hour, meaning that the billions of dollars spent on the bailout will simply be wasted."  Open Market.

In the meantime the car czar will be watching over our money and Detroit does as Detroit has done.

The only thing environmental groups agree on is that free-enterprise must be done away with.   And now that Obama has announced the new head of the EPA as being Lisa P. Jackson, a staunch environmental activist, the cars of the future will be technologically advancing to the horse and carriage, minus the horse.

But, tell me what is so wrongheaded with chapter 11 reorganization?

It’s not about rescuing the auto manufacturers, no it’s about doing away with capitalism and free enterprise, one step at a time, one industry at a time.
