Governors want $1,000,000,000,000 USD
Now the governors are asking the feds for 1 trillion. The 651 mayors put their bids in for a measly 100 billion. A trillion? That’s only $3200 from each of us. A family of 4, $12,800. Put it on the visa card, we’ll declare bankruptcy later on.
Ah, let’s go with the mayors plan to save the country from financial ruin, as that’s just a measly $320 from each of us 305 million Americans.
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Governors of five U.S. states urged the federal government to provide $1 trillion in aid to the country’s 50 states to help pay for education, welfare and infrastructure as states struggle with steep budget deficits amid a deepening recession.
The governors of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio and Wisconsin — all Democrats — said the initiative for the two-year aid package was backed by other governors and follows a meeting in December where governors called on President-elect Barack Obama to help them maintain services in the face of slumping revenues.
Gov. David Paterson of New York said 43 states now have budget deficits totaling some $100 billion as tax revenues plunge.
"It’s clear that the federal government needs to step in and jump-start the economy," said Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts.
No, it’s clear that government of all stripes, the feds, the states, and the cities have over bloated budgets. They’ve been using the same set of eyes for a few decades now and especially over the last decade, those eyes have seen an economy that kept going up, and up, and up, and up without ever considering the top of the roller coaster might come. They have spent and spent like there is no tomorrow. The feds have inserted earmarks and pork barrel projects to make the people back home happy to re-elect that one. The governors have tried to meet the feds demand for unfunded mandates along with trying to fulfill every possible wish list by every department, and hired people to fill the holes dug by people assigned to dig the holes.
The roller coaster (Superman Ride of Steel) is descending and politicians all over the spectrum have their arms raised and their mouths open screaming for relief.
What they don’t know is that the seat belts are about to break throwing bunches of them overboard as the country is wising up to their antics . .
A new election is coming.
