It’s a war of cartoons… and more.

“The Palestinian Authority continues a long tradition of celebrating the 2001 World Trade Center terror attacks by publishing cartoons in its official daily that glorify Osama Bin Laden and the attacks, or mock the suffering of the U.S.” Link.

binladencartoon “It should be noted that the U.S. continues to fund PA institutions and the Palestinian Authority itself, and to support it politically, while ignoring the continued Palestinian hate promotion against the U.S.”

Is it hope springing eternal that the US provides comfort and aid to a group that wishes to rid the world of the US? Or is it just a plain old playground fear of the bully that keeps on bullying.

Can’t fight them, so join them.

Cartoons like this one are published on a regular basis on Arab web sites and news organizations, and we get amused. PMW cartoons.

Meanwhile in Sweden, always considered one of the most peaceful quiet non involved peoples of the world, a cartoon was published about that Mohammed fellow as a dog, and Muslims came out of the desert to protest.

“The publication of the cartoon prompted angry reactions from Iran and Pakistan, which have both summoned Swedish diplomats to receive protests. The 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference has also condemned the publication and urged the Swedish government to punish the artist and the publisher as well as demand an apology.” more…

Last year a Danish artist depicted Mohammed in a cartoon and all hell broke loose within the Muslim community. A jihad was declared against the artist and the newspaper.

The publication led to outrage among the Muslim immigrants living in Denmark. 5,000 of them took to the streets to protest. Muslim organisations have demanded an apology, but Juste rejects this idea: ?We live in a democracy. That?s why we can use all the journalistic methods we want to. Satire is accepted in this country, and you can make caricatures,? he said. The Danish imam Raed Hlayhel reacted with the statement: ?This type of democracy is worthless for Muslims. Muslims will never accept this kind of humiliation. The article has insulted every Muslim in the world.? More…

Published today in The Scotsman is an entire 5 page recap of the cartoon war. Interesting stuff here.

Little did we hear about it here in the US, but in April of 2006, an Italian Catholic Magazine, Studi Cattolici, printed a cartoon of Mohammed in hell on the front page of the magazine. “The cartoon is a play on Dante’s Inferno - a similar scene is painted on the ceiling of the San Petronio Cathedral in Bologna, which had been the planned target of a Islamic terrorist cell until the plot was uncovered.” More…

So the war of cartoons is on.

We get amused.

Muslims get upset.

We know about freedom.

Muslims know about bondage.

We respect others freedom.

Muslims do not respect.

And that is as I see it.

More stuff to add.

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said on Monday that bigotry and prejudice, especially in regard to Muslims, were common in Europe and called on governments to tackle the issue.”

“Diene’s report said Islamophobia and equating Islam with terrorism created a climate favouring racial and religious hate.”

“But it also implicitly criticised Islamic states for their treatment of non-Muslim minorities and for refusing to recognise the right of people born into Islam to change their religion.” More…

Louise must be talking about those cartoons, but what of the riots that followed and their demands to suspend our free speech rights? Same old stuff will continue on till there is a victory. A victory usually means a winner and a loser. One goes home with the trophy, the other goes home.
